Harvest
A farm-to-table marketplace connecting local suppliers directly with consumers.
Overview
Harvest came from a simple observation: Kuwait imports more than 96% of its food, even though the country has a growing base of local farms and suppliers. Most of them lack a direct way to reach F&B businesses or everyday consumers, which means a significant portion of local supply goes underused.
Harvest was built to close that gap. One of its core goals is to reduce dependency on imported ingredients. This isn't just about convenience. COVID-19 showed how quickly supply chains can be disrupted when a market relies heavily on the outside world for basic goods. A stronger local supply network helps make the market more resilient to that kind of disruption in the future. Getting started on Harvest is simple, with sign up available through Google or Apple. Suppliers who want to join the platform submit an application, which is reviewed and either approved or denied, with that decision synced directly to Firebase.
Once approved, suppliers can begin listing their products, which appear right away in the correct category on the consumer side of the app, covering vegetables, fruits, meat, dairy, and more. The platform also includes a live market price feature that tracks the average local price across these categories, giving both suppliers and consumers a clear view of fair pricing. Going forward, a major focus is improving the algorithm behind those price calculations to make them more accurate over time. The app also includes Lottie animations, a new addition for me on this project that adds noticeably more polish to the overall experience.
